How we collect and calculate prices
Prices checked
Where the prices come from
We record lead-in package prices (flights plus hotel) from a tour operator’s public website for every departure month up to 18 months ahead, for ten UK departure airports, and for school-holiday weeks. Separate passes record departures in the next few weeks and re-check individual dates.
How often they refresh
Prices are recorded several times a day on our own server and the site is rebuilt every morning. Each page shows the date its prices were last checked. Every price we have ever seen is kept, so price histories are real observations, not estimates.
How we calculate
- From price: the lowest price we observed for a hotel, destination or month.
- Cheapest month: the departure month with the lowest from price, counting only months that can actually be booked.
- Typical price: the median, so a few very cheap or very expensive hotels do not skew it.
- Outliers: prices above £1,500 that are also more than 4 times the hotel’s own median are excluded as likely errors.
Known limits
- These are lead-in prices, not quotes. The operator’s booking page can be higher or lower; in our checks it differed by up to about 17%.
- Prices are usually per person for 7 nights and 2 adults sharing. Some villas and apartments are only sold for larger groups, and those pages say so.
- We currently cover one operator. Other operators block automated price checks, so we do not claim any price is the cheapest on the market.
- Between 19 August and 16 October 2026 our capture was interrupted; for that period only a 30-hotel sample has prices.
